I find within bow range, I'm pretty accurate, but I start practicing this time of year...As you are walking, stop, pick a mark and guess the range, then step it off....After awhile you get pretty good....Don't worry if your steps are 34 inches instead of a yard...Set you bow sights up to your steps....I'm lucky that I step off a yard with each step...
When I bow hunt I have already been in and picked a tree and I mark ranges at that time....I usually slash a tree at 10, 20 and 30 yards....One slash for 10, two for 20 and three for 30...
I hunted for about 35 years without a range finder, I did buy one a couple of years ago, it comes in handy, but isn't essential...
