Well, I finally could not stand it anymore…. I needed to go to Elk River on some business and I decided – perfect time to take the White and get some shooting and the added benefit you can get a 200 yard shot. I really do not like shooting @ Elk River because the draw you shoot in is really full of drafts from all the side draws that come in… ah, what the heck I got to shoot.
The first target up @ 100 yards was the “peeper” – I always wanted to shoot a peeper with the White, but I was figuring on shooting it with a 10mm 200 grain XTP – but today I was shooting Gold Dots…. I got the peeper both times, the first shot was from a clean barrel, the follow-up shot was close enough and I did not want take the 3rd – it was dead….
Next I put out 6 clay pigeons – 3 @ 150 yards and 3 @ 175. I took pictures of the setup and moved the camera to 5 power but when you look @ the pictures – you can not even see the birds – so I did not post them.
The 3 birds @ 150 were no problem – put the dual X on top of the bird pulled the trigger and they were gone – 1 shot - 1 bird. The 3 @ 175 were another matter. I held crosshairs on the top of the bird and squeezed it off – Twice – both shots were low I could see the dust fly. I walked out to the birds and both shots were about 4/5” inches low but left and right was good.
The White does not have a ballistic reticule, so I moved the scope so that the post of the dual-X was at the bottom of the bird – bang! 2 shots – 2 birds. I then decided to try a 10mm 200 grain XTP on the last bird. In my mind I thought I was shooting a ballistically better bullet so I aimed Xhairs on top of the bird and squeezed – it was low!!! Just like the 250’s. Loaded up another put the post on the bird – bang! It was gone. Those two bullets shoot about ballistically the same – surprised me.
The last things of the day was to shoot a group @ 150 yards and 200 yard. The 150 was really OK, but by now the drafts, and the warming sun were causing me some concerns. The last thing was the 200 yard target… That is a long ways away with a ballistically inferior bullet but I had to try. Need to do a hole lot more practice – if I want to claim to be a 200 yard shooter….
Here are the targets...
A bit over 3" at 200 yards, I don't think you need practice to go elk hunting or deer hunting, maybe clay pigeon breaking but certainly not huntin'. Excellent shooting. Chap
