285 and 385s shoot great out of my winchester x-150 .50 cal and my deer creek .45 rifle. Results are 5/8" @ 100 yards with the 385s in my winchester. Your Apex should love them. I use either 80 grains pyrodex rs or 80 grains triple 7. I like the pyrodex RS better in my inline due to all 3 shots grouping while with triple 7 my first shot is always a little high while the next 2 are lower and are the groupers.
In my .45 the 285s were around a 1 1/2" group. I never played with them much due to the rifle loving the 225 grain powerbelts.
