I've never used a call for deer. The only thing I do use is maybe an old set of antlers at the peak of the rut. You have to make the sound believable though, not just clashing the antlers together. Get down in the leaves, stomp a bit (challenging), then clash (the fight), then kick the leaves around (the struggle), stomp, then clash again. Thats my secret. Have the bucks practically running out of the woods from all directions. Never failed me yet.
