RE: Hunting Deer w/ Buckshot
Dixon...Just like a rifle, you need to shoot to see what the gun prefers...Not all guns are good at holding a pattern with buckshot...
Here is how I pattern...Get a target large enough to hold a news paper page, open the page just like you are going to read it, staple to the target and then take a 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper and staple it horizontal (sideways) in the middle of your newspaper, this is about the size of a deer's lung area...Back off 40 yards and take a shot, aiming at the
8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper...
Try different brands ammo and sizes, when you can consistantly put 4-6 pellets into the 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper, you have found your load...
My 3 inch Browning B-80 prefers the improved cylinder choke and 3 inch Mag Winchester Supreme 00 Buck...My Remington 1100 2 3/4 chamber deer slug shotgun prefers Winchester Supreme #1 Buck, of course in 2 3/4 inch shells...Either 00,0 or #1 buck are fully capable of killing deer if you hit them with 5-6 pellets in the lung area, within 40 yards...
