I wouldn't worry about the deer as much as if you have any
Ethiopians living near by. 
On a serious note, I don't see why deer wouldn't eat the corn. Just because there isn't tracks doesn't mean they don't eat it....simply means their not eating it there. The plot may just not be on of the main food plots to hit.
