Default off season bow storage

In the past I've always turned my bow poundage down when putting my bow away for the season because i was told this is what i should do to prolong the life of my bow. Is this really necessary? I shoot a ALPINE TETON LITE with split limbs. I have this bow shooting really good so I don't want to mess with letting the weight off and having to re-tune it this summer. Any comments? Thanks....
