Default RE: Truly Primitive - The Atlatl

ORIGINAL: LebeauHunter

I must live a sheltered life here in the Bayou State. I was joking to a traditional archer who
builds his own bows, that all that is left for him is spear hunting. Well, he told me they already
have that in the Atlatl.

He explained it - a spear with a sling attachment for leverage, and told me there are already tournaments
and people who are very profficient at it.

He also told me that many states are considering "primitive weapon" seasons before bow season for the Atlatl.

Anyway, I've probably been living under a rock, but thought I would see what you guys had to say.
We had Atlatl Bob down at Poverty Point (West Carroll Parish) for Archaeology Week back in the 90's. He brought some of his new (then) hyper-engineered atlatls and darts. I still have the launcher, but no darts. Those things are fun, but would be really hard to hunt whitetail with. Hogs maybe.
