While I agree with you that there are different types of corn.....if we all agree that the soil is more productive in the midwest....then the photos just help to show a little of what we all know is true.

It's not "science"....I agree.
GMMAT. . .while the available soil in the midwest may be more productive. . .soil productivity is not the sole determining factor (thoughit plays alargepart)on crop height and yield. M50 was dead on correct with this statement:

In case you didnt know, different varieties of corn grow at different rates and to different heights. Some only grow to 4-5' while others to 8-9'. Time of planting, available, moisture, and applied fertilizer and lime also influence the plot.Nice try though
He hit on two of the biggest factors when determining corn height (varieties/genetics and time of planting/available moisture). Obviously, if corn hasthe correct nutrients andample water, it can thrive in less desirable soil types.

On the same token,corn which is tall,does not necessarily translate into higher yields.
