Default RE: Head shot with a bow

I was hunting with a friend and I let him sit in my usual spot (on the ground) and a deer came right down the trail we walked in on and my friend drew back and the buck just came right in on his tracks. So he is holding back and the deer is maybe 4 yards probably three yards from him. Next thing I see is a deer jump and run my direction with an arrow sticking out the side of his head. He stopped and my frined was able to put another arrow in him at about 25 yards. However the deer fell over just after that other arrow and was bleeding like crazy from the head shot.

This was not his intended shot and he is not sure what happened to this day. This was his first buck he has ever taken with a bow as well. I still can not figure out how he hit it right square in the head either. I think it had something to do with his arrow basically almost touching the deer already and making the nerves go crazy.

As far as an intentional shot at the head, not ever going to do it.

I was talking to another guy that was trying to shoot a deer right under his stand and the arrow fell off the rest and went into the deers head. He seen the same deer with part of his arrow sticking out of his hear later that year.

Not a good idea. I am glad for the animals sake that you did take him down. I had the biggest buck of my life walk by me on public land at about 15 yards. I couldn't get him to stop and there was one branch in the way that I thought I would hit so I didn't take the shot.
