Then there was this time that I was hunting bear out of the stand we built in my post above. It was getting late when I stuck an arrow into the shoulder of a bear. He didn't like that too much so he took off running up the little knoll to the left. I waited 30 minutes then got down and started the second hunt. I followed the blood trail up the knoll and back down into the deep thicket of the creek I was hunting on. There was no way that I was going to crawl down into that hole by myself so I called a friend (who got me into bear hunting) to come up and join in the hunt.
I go back to my truck to wait on Frazier. While I'm standing there I hear something BIG coming out of the bottom next to the road. A minute later a moose and her baby wander out onto the road and turn and walk away from me down the road. The road bends so they disappear from sight. This was my first moose sighting so I was pumped. I hear Frazier bouncing up the road and I fear he is going to come around the bend and hit the moose. All of a sudden they come running (if you can call it that) back around the bend and heading straight for me. So I ease off the road into the brush. The moose turn and run up into the woods straight for me. I look down and realize I'm standing on a game trail...the one they used to get off the road. The mother sees me and turns and runs off but the baby doesn't see me and keeps bulldozing my way. I start backing up and wave my arms and yell!! The baby (which stands almost as tall as I am) finally sees me and cuts off into the woods about 10 yards in front of me. Talk about exciting!
Happy Hunting
