I think alot of others will agree - its Really hard to beat Cereal Rye for a fall planting. It stays green all winter, has a HUGE root system that helps rebuild soils. It inhibits weed growth, even when turn under in the spring for another planting (like maybe corn or soybeans). Its Cheap -
And..........
Deer really like it for the Carbs in the Fall and winter months. Especially when its not a really common fall planting by farmers in your area.
Others might have the same praise for Winter Wheat or Buck Forage Oats - they are all similar.
