I met Fred Bear several times when his museum was in Grayling, Michigan. He was prone to roam around and had impromptu/spur of the moment seminars. I learned things from him that I remember to this day.

One thing for sure by today's standards some of his shots would not be considered ethical but he never, to my knowledge anyway, participated in a canned or ranch hunt. In his day though he was more ethical than some of todays stars.

One thing I learned during one visit in Grayling . . . his main love if not a tennant . . . was to get close. On one of my visit they had just added his Kodiak Bear and he was there looking it over. The twinkle in his eye as he talked about getting close was almost catching. I'm not sure I'd want to be 5 steps from a Kodiak that squared ouit at more than 10 feet.

Different times and different standards. One cannot compare apples and oranges.
