Don't know how, but I dealt with that same problem last fall. Ditto to what has already been said to fix it. I moved the shoulder straps one bar lower (ie, to raise it up) and each time I use it, I just push the cables most of the way in (usually leaving one knob out). That seemed to fix it for me. It also keeps it higher so it doesn't catch on as much underbrush.
