Without minimizing Fred Bears contributions to the popularity of bowhunting, I do believe that someone else would have come along to poularize it.
After all, Pope and Young were there for Fred Bear to emulate. If he had not done so I am sure Jim Dougherty or Bob Lee or one of the other early bow hunters would have.
I have been to the Fred Bear Archery Museum twice and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I have to say though, that when I tell my kids to look up to someone as a role model in our sport it would not be Fred Bear.
