I'm sure what you read about Fred was true, and I agree that by today's standards it does not measure up. The only thing I can say is things sure were different back then, and not only bowhunting.

Things that used to pass as socially acceptable would land you in a heap of legal or moral trouble today. So before passing judgement consider the context of the times and societies views.
