I took the CVA .54 flintlock mountain rifle out today and set up a 50 yard target. First 3 shots were LOW. Adjusted the sights, 3 more shots, hit maybe an inch higher, Adjusted again, 2 shots were in the orange and the 3ed was to the right a wee bit. Did one more final adjustment and will leave it there until i try out 75 yards tomorrow. Very top bullet hole was a hang fire.
All shots were with 70 grains Triple 7, .015 TC prelubed patch " which i had to relube due to tc being cheap on lube and not adding enough" Speer .530 roundball. Goex 4f as my pan primer. Once i get my new Frizzen spring and new flints, i'll have it working perfectly.I also checked my patches and found them to be unburnt and in great shape. 80 grains triple7 will be my max load for tomorrow and then i'll just start adjusting the sights to get it where i want it. I'll also use my shooting table and rifle rest for the 75,100 yard shots. Todays shooting was off the fence line.
So far so good! It looks like i just will have to put in for a left over cow elk tag and hope i get one so i can give the .54 a try.
