Default RE: Western Maryland

What areas of central maryland would be worth while to hunt rifle instead of shotgun... I have some alright archery spots already.. but I would still consider making a trip for archery out to central Md.
Ah, this is the paradox of hunting western MD in comparison to the central region. You cannot discharge a rifle in central MD (a part of Frederick County you can, but many may consider that western MD anyway). Western MD does allow rifle hunting. The rest of MD is shotgun only. There may be a part of the Eastern Shore where you can use a rifle to hunt. I'd have to check, but I don't really know since I don't hunt there personally.

I honestly don't see the appeal of hunting archery in western MD OVER central MD, but it all depends on what you are looking for. As already mentioned Dan's MT draws few hunters, but if you plan on hunting there or just about any other mountain in that area, be prepared to do some serious hiking and you will not see any decent racks.

My personal opinion for archery in MD is you can't top central MD. The deer numbers are high (actually out of control due to development) and there are pockets where wallhanger bucks live and the numbers for them are not bad at all.

Again, it all depends on what you are looking for.
