I have used sheds and as long as they are fairly fresh, meaning not in the elements for a long period, they work just fine. I can't really say if these some what damaged ones will be good, you'll have to be the judge. As far as treating them I have never done that. As long as they are kept out of rain, sun, etc they will be good, of course rattling can produce splintering, etc. I think you should be fine as is.
