Yes, it is common, especially for hunting arrows with large vanes, helical fletching, heavy arrows, heavy points. I switched from 29" aluminum 2413 arrows, with 5" helical fletching, and 125g thunderheads to 27" axis arrows, blazer vanes, and wasp jakhammers in order to retain velocity and more KE downrange.
