Just wonderin if part of the reason you hear about deer bedding in swamps during early season is if they are submerged in water they can keep the bugs off (and keep cool while doing it).

I went on a disaster June trip to the Buffalo river (pre Thermacell) and we got eaten alive by seemingly every bug on the planet (chiggers, ticks, mosquitoes, flies, gnats). We had to stay in the river to keep sane. Heck, even in the water, the horseflies were circling your head or waiting for you to come up.
