By the middle of August here inN. Idaho whitetailbucks have finished up thegrowing process, as testosterone levels increase antlers harden and velvet is shed here starting in late August by the older mature bucks. By the end of thesecond weekof September almostevery buck in the woods is rubbed offand in hard antler.
About the same here north of the border. I think a lot of people have the misunderstanding that they grow right up until they shed their velvet. From my understanding, it takes about 3 weeks for the antlers to harden, then the velvet shedding begins.
