Default RE: Bear hunting in Maine

i think you need to file and pay a fee to the timber company for use of a bait area. if your hunting by stalk i dont think you need it. my guide last time i was in maine told me its like 100$ for that permit. one reason why they hate to move hunters around much. they keep track of where the baits are because the outfitters fight over the better areas. if your going anyway check into all the options you have. make phone calls and get on the web. put the hunt into your hands. just remember on a good year i think its only like 40% success over bait. stalking on your own is gonna be much harder. maybe find a local outfitter and pay for use of one of there baits. some dont like to deal with hunters not staying in there camp but ive found there are some who will work with you.anyway check with the lumber company first then get to work making your hunt happen. if you have any other questions as far as what you need gear wise or any other suggestions i could wright a book so send me a private mail maybe i can help.
