Default RE: Bear hunting in Maine

What part of the state are you going to? Do you own the land or your friend? If not the first thing you would need is permission to bait. Up here it is the law to obtain permission from the landowner to bait on first. If I only had a short time to bait in, I would find a group of apple trees. Both deer and bear as well as other wildlife love the apples. I would move out about 300 to 400 yards away from them and set out some sweets topped with somecherry pie filling. Bears love that cherry pie filling. You could set up around the apple trees but, it would depend on if bird season has opened up. If bird season is open alot of folks like to hunt birds around the apple trees. That is why I would recomend hunting away from them some. Also when setting up try to make sure the average wind direction will blow down towards the apple trees to get a bears attention. Good Luck to you.
