I had my White Ultra Mag out today. I wanted to shoot some of the new Bull Shop 500 grain conicals I just got in and to work on tuning that Thompson Center 1X scope. I had ruff sighted in this winter but never really pushed the issue with it. I was only shooting at 50 yards.
At first, the shots were hitting high and to the right. So I made an adjustment and moved them to the left, and low but went too far. The final adjustment was just right. It laid them big conicals right into the bulls eye. The only bad thing is, the cross hair hides the white dot, but that is something I can live with. I wanted to get it close is all before I move back in distance out to 100 yards.
Getting tired of shooting paper I found some lids in the trash from food containers. The kind you peel back a little and then rip them out of the can. So I hung them on the little hooks that held the target and took a shot at each of them. Actually the one on the far right, I shot four times with hits all four times (the photo was taken after the first shot).
And since I always have a can of soda pop with me, I put up a diet Pepsi can on one of them hooks. I fired four times at it and four times I watched it swing in the trap down range. But to be honest, I can only see three holes. I know it moved all for times. But oh well. The rifle is deadly with the 1X scope at 50 yards, next will be to see what it does at 75 & 100 yards.
Also I did not swab at all during the entire time of shooting and was using CCI #11 (not the magnum) caps for ignition. Now granted with only 70 grains of Triple Se7en 3f I would guess their speed at maybe 1350 fps. Not all that fast, but fast enough for any critter I want to shoot at. I almost bought a chronograph when they were on sale last time, but I asked the person on the telephone some questions about the one they were selling and they kept suggesting a much better (and more expensive) model, so I passed on it.
On a kind of different note, I did discover someone that respects my ability to shoot today. My old 14 year old black Labrador Number Seven (yep.. that's his name. He is my seventh dog). He's deaf (probably from sitting next to me while I shoot for so many years) and he tuckers out fast. So he decided he found a place where he could watch me shoot, and not have to walk with me so far to check the target. Don't worry, I made him move before I shot. I hand signaled him back to me and made him sit under the shooting bench.
I just thought you might get a kick out of the old rascal...
