Just wanted to say thanks
Finally getting around to thanking all of you for the great info and opinions on here. Started turkey hunting 2 years ago and knew absolutely nothing and didnt know anyone to teach me. Found this site and read every day all your thoughts and experiences. Took all of that (along with a grain of salt!) and went to the woods every possible minute I could. First year I learned alot. Last year learned even more and got a beautiful gobbler - 11 inch beard with 1 1/4" spurs. I'm guessing a 3 yr old due to the hooks. Never dreamed I would get such a nice bird for my first.
The 2 most valuable things I learned so far - 1. Get in the woods and stay out there no matter what the weather is. I hunted sun up until sun down in the rain and in 85 degree weather (gets hot in Georgia!)
2. I was calling way too much and way too loud. Figured that out sitting in the woods all summer, fall and winter listening to hens. Although some of those hens are downright obnoxious!!
For all you fellow "rookies" like me I think these were the 2 most important things. Type of gun, calls, camo etc are all just personal choices I think. Not that I know much yet!!
I should end this long winded thread now and just say again THANK YOU to all of you. I am truly "hooked" for life!!
