Here's another load I tried in the LYMAN Mustang using Remington 300 grain jacketed hollow point45-70 bullets (.458 diameter) in MMP orange sabots.
All are 5-shot groups at 50 yards with Pyrodex RS and CCI 209's.
Target 1 (upper left)- 70 grains powder,1 1/4" group, 1130 fps average.
Target 2 (upper right) - 80 grains, 1 3/4" group, 1225 fps average.
Target 3 (lower left) - 90 grains, 1 3/8" group, 1312 fps average.
Target 4 (lower right) - 100 grains, 1 7/8" group, 1393 fps average.
Looks like an acceptable deer load and the bullets are pretty cheap ($19 per hundred from Midway). I use these in my 45-70 and know they perform well. Don't know how the groups will hold up at 100 yards and beyond because I ran out of orange sabots. Also want to give them a try with T-7.
Has anyone else tried the 458/orange sabot combo?
