RE: Funny Doggy Stories
Ok. First off let me say this didn't happen to me but to some friends of the family. In my hometown we had, well let's just say,a couple of colorful feller's. These two were identical twins, Warren and Wayne. They had a great love of Labs. They also had some of the best labs in our area. They herd of a new looking lab that wasn't ever seen in our parts, a Chocolate Lab. Well you guessed it, they had to have one. They both got in touch with a breeder and soon had 2 of the "purdiest" Chocolate Lab pups you ever did see. To honor the occassion, they each went out and bought brand new shotguns, Rem 870's I believe. When the pups were around 3 months old the brothers were messing around with the shotguns and had the pups in the basement with them. They had to leave for a while and just laid the shotguns on the couch in the basement and left without putting the pups in their coop. When they got home that evening they checked in on their beloved pups to find that they had had a field day in the basement and ate the stocks and forearms off both brand new shotguns. One more for you. These same two brothers had a couple very nice yellow labs. They use to take these dogs everywhere with them. One day one of the brothers went ice fishing on Lake Superior and as he was fishing his lab would run from shanty to shanty visiting with everyone in the area. Well soon enough he hears his dog whinning and looks to see just the head sticking out of the ice. His dog had ventured out too close to the mouth of the river and had fallen through thin ice and was hanging on for dear life as the current of the river was trying to pull her under the ice for good. Against all the yelling and warnings from all the guys in the area, Warren went to the rescue of his dog. He laid flat on the ice and scooted out to the edge and got hold of her collar and pulled her to freedom on top of the ice. How he never managed to fall through at his 190lbs when his 65+lb dog went through is something else. Oh yeah, then there was the time they had a good black lab and a young chocolate and they were riding the logging roads shooting ruffed grouse and having the dogs retrieve them from the back of the truck. One of them seen a big owl sitting on an old snag and decided to kill it to save a few more grouse, big time illegal. The one brother shot the owl, which dropped right there and the other brother sent his big black lab to retrieve it. When the lab got there the owl sprang up and promptly sank his talons into the dogs head and started squawking and beating the dog with it's wings. The brother that owned the lab was yelling to his brother to shoot the owl again before it ruined his dog off birds. His brother was laughing so hard he couldn't and told him if he shot again he would surely kill is best bird dog. The owl let go and they called their dog back to the truck and took off before the owl changed it's mind so they say. Like I said they were a couple of very colorful individuals. Stories like this for a young kid like me in the 70's were enough to keep me laughing for days. Hope you like these stories, and sad but true they are all true.
