ok...question for somebody.Last year I shot the federal heviweights in no.5's and they are super killers.My gun was a bennelli with a .665 kicks ported tube.The gun is a guaranteed 60 yd turkey smasher now and I will not use any other shell if I can get my hands on those loads.
This year I have had to shoot a superx 2 winchester.All I had was an improved cylinder factory tube.I kinda got caught by turkey season this yr with my pants down and used what i had.I smashed a big gobbler with it at 55 yds.Shot the yardage with a lazer rangefinder.AN IMPROVED CYLINDER! I normally wouldn't have done it but it was crunch time and my brain said long shot and then my brain said heviweights and results from last yr.I shot and the gob just dissappeard and there was a dark spot on the ground and it was him.Toasted.I smiled.
My question...federal recomends a non ported tube in .665 to .675 I believe and without any wad retaining features for best results.I couldn't get any better results with my kicks choke and my bennelli.I have this new gun and I'm trying to find the proper choke for it if anyone has any info.It is a 3 1/2 inch Winchester SuperX 2.I don't want to start buying 70 dollar chokes till I find the right one.
Last yr I shot a gob at 54 steps and the wad flew 46 yards.My bennelli shoots a 3 foot by 3 foot pattern at 63 yds on paper with pellets about 1/4 apart.No fliers.They are all there and every one of them has the power to go out the back of a turkeys neck and head at 63 yds.I did it.They are awesome.C'mon...quarter inch a part at over 60 yds...A 3 foot diameter beehive...
If anyone has any questions about the patterns I will be glad to answer them.I still have the bennelli I jsut didn't get to hunt with it this yr.
