14 strands, but you have one coming (for that bow with the shallow string grooves) that is only 12 strands. How many shots to get one settled in depends on the material, type string, bow weight, and who made it--about any of them will be shot in by 50-100 shots though. Dacron can draw up some if you unstring your bow though, and may continue to stretch for a good while. I have a jig I use to pre-stretch mine, but it still takes some shooting to get all the slack out.
