RE: Team #1 "The Tominators"
Sorry to say boys, but I blew it this morning on the CT opener. It was pouring rain, and I had a bird roosted. I yelped before he flew down and he acknowledged me. I saw him fly down and SLOWLY work towards my dekes, when I noticed out of the corner of my eye a silent longbeard in full strut also SLOWLY working towards my dekes from a different direction. Both of these birds were longbeards. I waited until one of them gave me what I thought was a good shot and BOOM! I was confident I would be adding some points for the team, but I couldn't believe HE FLEW AWAY! I underestimated the range. Sorry boys. I did stop by another farm on my way home to check in with the landowner and saw a nice bird in the field. The landowner convinced me to give it a try even though there was only a half hour of legal shooting time (gotta quit by noon in CT.) I snuck into the field and tried to get him to come probably about 100 yards, but he wasn't interested. The woods across the field exploded in gobbling though but they were sitting tight and there was no time to legally pursue. I have hunted this farm for 3 years and have never seen or heard birds there, but I know they are around. This year may be a little different. That was just one field out of a good 200+ acres I have permission on, so I have my fingers crossed.
