I did the same thing but with a 30.06. Unfortunately, I will be buying a new scope again because the last one doesnt want to work anymore after 20 rounds with it laying loosely in its rings....go figure

I got a cheap scope for my Mini-14 and was sighting it in today. Naturally my first few shots were barely nicking the paper so I crunk down on the adjustments and they moved a little. Repeat about 4 times...
I got them at least approaching the bulls eye but it seemed that when I made even the slightest adjustment they would move about 8 inches in any given direction and weren't grouping at all. At this point I noticed that my vertical cross hair wasn't exactly vertical any more.
After about 40 rounds of ammo and a ton of curse words later I hear something rattle and figure out that I had mounted the scope but didn't tighten the screws past hand tightening.
Oh well, it happens to the best of us
