Default The Streak Continues

Shawn and i helped continue the streak to 3 birds in three days. This was one exciting hunt. We had been chasin birds all morning with no success when we spotted two toms strutting out in the pasture. We snuck all the way down the creek bottom and got right up on them. It took us forever to walk down the creek quietly and get on these birds and we didnt have a lot of time since in MO you can only hunt till 1 and we spotted the birds at 12:30. We finally got to where we were only about 40 yards from the birds and we were going to wait till they were strutting the opposite way, pop up and shoot them at about 40 yards. Turns out there was a hen right in between us and she came straight over towards us and got about 5 feet away. She was so close i could see her tounge moving. She didnt spook real bad but just slowly walked the other way. Once she was out of sight we slow raised up to get a shot at the gobbler slowly feeding behind the leaving hen. I was right over Shawns shoulder when he drew back and sent the tightpoint flying. At 55 yards, it took the arrow a little while to get there, but we knew he made a good hit when we heard the loud "whack" of the arrow smacking the bird and breaking his leg. He ran around a little flopping and whatnot, then tried to fly across the creek and carashed hard into the trees on the other side. He was a good mature bird, probably a three year old. It was an awesome exciting hunt. After the shot i looked down at my watch. 12:56...
