It seems where I come from in Texas that we do this a little differently. Check your local laws before doing this but we just drive around at night and use a spotlight. When you see some eyes in the tree get out of the truck, load your gun and shoot the coon, while your buddy shines the light on him.
P.S. I wouldn't recommend doing this during the deer season, you may get accused of spotlighting deer, and your deer herd dwill be more spooky
