Look thru the barrel....if the rifling is crisp and clean, you may just shoot it. However it's wise to run a cloth patch thru the barrel several times....the last pass thru to include a light gun oil.....That insures that any rustpreventative that may be installed by the Manufacturer is removed. Years ago manufacturers used cosmoline and that stuff needed to be removed.......I suspect they have learned that that is no longer necessary to use cosmoline in the bore. I've seen some so badly packed with cosmoline that you can't see light thru the barrel.
