I use my 835 for dove, pheasant, turkey, and predators. And I can honestly say I have never had one problem with it. Never have one jam up, even with the 3.5". For $300 it was a great investment for me. As long as you can hold the gun correctly when you're shooting big loads the recoil is manageable, because you most likely won't be shooting a lot of 3.5" shells one after the other.
The 835 is called a poor man's 10 guage for a reason. Mossberg doesn't make the 835 with as good quality as some other gun manufacturers make that type of gun, but has a very resonable price on the gun that gets the job done If you don't need the big loads then the 500 would be alright too. There are a lot of good guns out there, it just depends a lot on the amount of money you want to spend and what you want to use it for. Good luck
