Deerhunter2006: I know you asked between a 7mm and 300 mag originally, so I would definately go with the 300 mag. Its pretty straight forward why. Just look at the ballistics between the 2. 7mm would be my second choice so I'm not saying its bad. You can use the 300 for everything from deer to elk or moose depending on bullet used. I would stay away from the .30-06 there is simply flatter shooting with the 300, its basically the same bullet with more powder in the 300 anyway. Good for the long shots youre talking about.
