Are you serious? The .35 Whelen IS what it was supposed to be. It is a powerful, flexible, accurate cartridge that works effectively in hunting-weight rifles. I've been hunting with my Whelen for almost 10 years now, and have ample reason to believe the good colonel knew what he was doing 80 years ago.
I'm sure the .338-06 is a wonderful round, and is probably indistinguishable from the .35 Whelen in actual hunting practice. But I sincerely doubt that it is in any way superior.
That being said, I would like to have one, just for the fun of it.
