how old? i would sugest the 30-06 it can get a lil painfull after 30+ shots but it has such a wide range of hunting its amazing! you can shoot from less then a 50 grain to a 250 grain thats varmit to elk and up, i have one and its my "everything under the sun, gun"
i would sugest a savage, its a cheap gun that is ideal for the first time hunter, every thing on it is simple, well built and most of all accurate!
