a few weekends ago, I hit a groundhog at 250+ yards with my .17hmr. Blood everywhere but he made it down in his hole. I would much have rather had my ruger .22-250 but wanted the .17 to get its first blood. Got 3 other confirmed kills and that 1 hit with .17
But I have killed groundhogs at 400 yards with the .22-250
if you plan on shooting over 200 yards, get the .22-250 or do what i did and buy both
