DO NOT STICK HIS NOSE IN IT!!!!!!!!!!!! If you do then all he will smell is his poop and pee. He will smell it everywhere and he can not associate the smell of his poop and pee with the place he is supposed to go. Every where he goes will smell like the place he is supposed to go. You do need to get him on a schedule, you should also take him to the same place every time and you should give him a one or two word command when you get him there. The most important thing,however, is to lavish him with praise when he does do it right. One more thing is that once he understands what "GO PEE" or "GO POO" or whatever command you decide to use means, you need to keep praising him for doing what is expected through out his adult life. My current dog uses an area of about 6 x 6 foot in my back yard as his spot to go. he hasn't gone anywhere else but that spot in 4 years, except if we aren't at home of course. I firmly believe that he uses this area and no other because it is the only spot he has ever been directed to for the purpose of releiving himself and the only spot where he gets praised when he does go.
