Default RE: Are Crossbows Considered Archery???

archeryOne entry found for archery.

Main Entry: ar·chery
Pronunciation: 'är-ch&-rE
Function: noun
1 : the art, practice, or skill of shooting with bow and arrow
2 : an archer's weapons
3 : a body of archers Considering Websters definition of "archery", and given the fact that there is a "bow" in a crossbow, then yes, I would say using a crossbow is still archery. Many or most compound users would disagree, or at least say that putting a stock on a bow and leaving the bow drawn, in thier opinion, would be "cheating". I'm sure there are tons of traditional shooters who don't consider compound bow shooters as true archers. As with most controversial issues like this, it's all about how you feel and what you believe. Two questions for you, Dave.First, if you sustained an injury that made in impossible for you to shoot trad or compound, would you give up bow hunting altogether, or would you switch to a crossbow?Second, I followed your thread in the crossbow section as well as some of the others here and I'm just curious.... do you enjoystirring upcontroversy as this will obviously do? A large percentage of the guys in the crossbow forum had turned to crossbows because of injuries. The crossbow forum is labeled"this is not a crossbow debate forum".Why go in there in the first place if youalready know where you're going.
