My season opens up next monday.
-Jake |
Why in the world would they open up a season on a Monday? That sounds ridiculous to me. I don't know, maybe there is a reason for it. Anyway, good luck.

season start
It's no crazier than South Carolina, they just went with a longer season and started it on a Sunday!
|
Here in Okieland it always opens on April 6th and closes on May 6th no matter the day of the week
|
Here in Maryland, first day is always April 18th no matter what day of the week it is (unless sunday, but we have just about all sunday hunting now so not sure if that will change). I'm still waiting for our season to start. I've seen a lot of longbeards so far this year.

RMG, I just watched your video. Sounds like a lot of gobblers. You are in the right spot. Are you hunting private or public land? How many Merriam's can you take in CO? Sounds like you will have plenty of chances to take another one. BTW, you may want to practice a little on the mouth call, lol.
The roost is on NF but the gobblers all went to private to strut, I got mine that late after noon. In Colorado if you have a tag for a limited area ( win it in the draw) you can get 1 bird in the limited area and buy an over the counter tag and get one in an unlimited area, so two max but I'm done. |

Can't wait to get out there... and of course my work schedule is blowing up for the first few days... BUT... I will get out. We can only hunt half days in Mass & NY... so will hopefully happen quick one of the mornings. |
I have hunters here from Maryland, they killed 4 birds yesterday, 1 was a bow kill, the other 3 were shotgunned, one of which was a 23.5lb bird with 1 2/8" spurs, 9" beard,..
Kansas has really screwed up our season start dates, we used to be youth/disabilty/archery april 1-12, then shotgun opened 4/13,..season runs till may 31st Now, youth and disability opens april 1st, archery opens the 1st monday after the 1st sat. of the month, so this yr, archery opened april 4th, shotgun now opens the 2nd wednesday after the 1st saturday, . Shotgun can open anywhere from april 12th thru the 18th,..NUTTY! I have numerous great properties to hunt,..i will be done guiding about may 1st, so will be looking for a big mature bird to hunt. Im wanting one to mount so gonna be kinda choosey |

Don't be too choosey. We need as many birds as possible. Good luck getting that big one. |
Youth season finally started today and we had a great time but I missed 2 big gobblers. 1 at 18 yards and 1 at 23 yards. I normally hit good at these distances in practice but I missed these gobblers. I am 9 years old. My papa wanted me to ask you all if you think a .410 is strong enough for turkey. After today he's wondering because in practice I always hit the target good with the bulk of the bb's in the paper plates. Let me know what you all think.
