Congrats to all that got birds this past week. I went out this weekend to western Oklahoma. Seen a couple jakes but just way too many hunters. Every time I had a Tom coming in someone would drive by real slow spook them the other way. The 30 acres I like to hunt is right on a black top road and they roost on the other side of the road. I did call up several hunters that where nice enough to park next to my truck and come on in.

I did get permission to take the wife on her first turkey hunt on a lease her dad has. Called in several jake and she attempted a shot but shot way low. She didn't understand the instructions I gave her on using the sight. Next time she'll get one. Had fun anyway.

3rd bird this morning, was hunting private land and had one coming in but he saw the jake decoy and buggered off. I think that's what happened but not sure. Was driving out and saw a Tom on the treeline so checked with the binos and sure enough it was a long beard! I backed up the truck and did a stalk and he hadn't moved so got a little closer and dropped him. I noticed that he had a mucus discharge from his beak and mouth and when I picked him up he seemed light. Got him back to the truck and did the measurements- rt spur 7/8 inch(it had been broomed off) lt spur 1 1/8 inches, beard 10.5 inches but he only weighed 13.75 pounds! I guess a 3 or 4 year old bird that was sick or injured. the beard was really curved and very brittle. I think I saved him a couple of days of suffering before the coyotes got him. Mixed feelings on this one, I didn't save the meat on this one, but I don't feel I wasted a tag and I think i did the ethical thing. Pictures to follow. Knock 'en down team 3! superstrutter please update.

2 things

1. RockyMtnGobblers, nice bird, all I've ever killed are Easterns, I guess I need to broaden my horizons.
2. As far as I can tell we never did get a Team name, I care little, Team 3 has a nice ring to it.

1 more thing

I wish I had some good news and a picture to post, but I struck out in Georgia. Hunted hard 4 days, had some close calls. just not close enough. Did manage to kill a couple hogs and fill a few coolers while I was there, so not a total washout. :D I'm heading down to Virginia this weekend, keeping my fingers crossed!!

Good luck in Virginia. You will eventually score.

I really don't care either. The only name that more than one person showed interest in was Roost Raiders. We can go with that if nobody cares.
