So Welcome your new Team Members.

katt72 10-13-2015 10:53 AM

Katt72 checkin in. My name is Darrin, I will be hunting in Texas.

Talondale 10-15-2015 09:51 AM

Checking in. Will be hunting in VA with BP and Rifle.

kellyguinn 10-19-2015 06:24 AM

I'm here. I'll be hunting public land here in the great state of Oklahoma. Always looking for other states to hunt in just haven't had the opportunity or time to commit to it. Good luck and safe hunting

Talondale 10-26-2015 10:29 AM

My best days will be Nov 12-14. Last two days of BP and first day of gun. Rut is usually in full swing and bucks are moving.

Sent a PM to Buckman11 asking him to check in here.

kellyguinn 10-27-2015 09:12 AM

I was suppossed to be off this week and out in the woods for BP season but with changing jobs they scheduled me for a class. I should still be able to get out friday morning thru sunday but the chance of rain here is right around 80% so that kinda limits what I can do. Either way I'll be out there. After this weekend I wont be able to get out with the rifle till the weekend before Thanksgiving. Good luck all

I have sent Buckman11 a PM, and an e-mail also.

He hasn't been logged in since, Last Activity: 10-09-2015 07:51 PM
Maybe he has been hunting and hasn't had time to login.

buckman11 10-28-2015 05:35 PM

Checking in guys. Sorry Im late. Been kinda inactive since my injury in September. But Im back in the saddle!

Talondale 10-29-2015 06:07 AM

Sorry to hear about your injury, Buckman11. Hope everything is back to full operation. I have to work out of town next weekend which is the first weekend of the BP season. I may be able to get an hour before work after Daylight Savings kicks in this weekend.

EDIT: Actually just realized that BP starts this weekend so I'm good to go for the opener.

buckman11 10-30-2015 09:41 AM

Almost put an arrow in a 28 point typical yesterday. I'll be after him hard the next couple weeks. Rifle starts the 14th over here. I'll be thrilled to put him down with either method!

buckman11 10-30-2015 09:42 AM

What kinda Rut activity are yall seeing? Seeking and chasing is starting to heat up over here.

Talondale 10-31-2015 05:16 AM

4 bucks so far this morning. One made me look again but too small. Lots of movement. Not sure if from being bumped or seeking. Buddy in GA says his hunt club is seeing them moving.

kellyguinn 11-02-2015 03:59 AM

I went out the last 3 days of our black powder season here and didn't see a thing. Think is was over pressured before I got there. The game warden also said the deer population is way down because of the drought we have been in the last 4 or 5 years. Got plenty of rain this year but it will take a while to rebound.

I found no sign of the rut at all. No scrapes or rubs. Hopefully I can find one or get out of state if time allows. Good Luck All

Hey guys thanks for letting me play on such short notice
My name is Don and I moved from Iowa to Montana a month ago
I was able to get an over the counter non-resident antlerless whitetail tag for region 3 so I'll be out looking for a doe to add to the books

Don

kellyguinn 11-09-2015 03:36 AM

Jrbsr, Sorry about your foot and season. Hope you heal up quick and get ready for next year.

Welcome to the team Don.

WIbuckchaser 11-09-2015 06:59 PM

Hey it's WIbuckchaser checking in. I got lucky and got in as an alternate. I totally spaced out the sign up this year. Over the years I have had some pretty good luck putting points on the board, never a ton of points but usually some. Our gun season starts 11/21/15. Seems to be a few deer running around in the county land I do most of my hunting! Good luck guys!

katt72 11-10-2015 09:12 AM

Opening Weekend

I was able to make it out to my place Sun. I was only able to make a evening sit(5'ish). As I'm walking into my stand location, just before I make it, I see a nice 10pt. under the feeder. I crouched, got my rifle set, just as I was taking it off the safety, he looks up at me...tail end waves bye-bye.

kellyguinn 11-10-2015 09:31 AM

I've been told that there is a lot of chasin going on around the area but I'm not seeing much action at all. Its pretty wooded by the house though so maybe they just arent using that area for it. I'm headed out to some public land I like about 3 hrs away to do a little bow hunting. maybe find a spot before the rush during gun season. I've been wanting to try to get out of state maybe to Texas or Kansas to change it up a bit. Just hard to convince the friends to come with me and hitting a new area far from home by yourself can be kinda daunting

Talondale 11-18-2015 06:04 AM

Spent 3 days hunting and only saw a couple of tails flagging in the fog. My buddy got a nice one though:

I'll be going out with my oldest son this weekend and have 3 days off for Thanksgiving.

Wow that is a dandy!

WIbuckchaser 11-20-2015 03:03 PM

Our season here in Wisconsin opens in about 13 hours. The anticipation is overwhelming!

Talondale 11-23-2015 12:06 PM

My son and I had a buck grunting at us from a thicket 80 yards away but no visual for the last 30 minutes of light. Never saw him. He grunted several times over the 30 minutes. That morning I saw one deer body moving through the woods too far to ID. I also had two turkey within shooting range but season is closed.

Buddy went back a week later and sat a camp chair up on a mound in the cutover near where he killed the big buck, he told me he was going to take an aluminum 6 foot ladder, and had another big buck come within 50 yards of him. 18.5" inside spread. He's having a fabulous year.

WIbuckchaser 11-24-2015 03:55 PM

I took a doe opening day. I will get a picture posted within a week.

Talondale 11-25-2015 05:26 AM

Congrats Wibuckchaser!

dman4505 12-01-2015 05:09 AM

Well my season is done...tag soup for me
Saw a few mulies which sucks when you're hunting white tails
Sorry I could help

Don

kellyguinn 12-01-2015 06:47 AM

I got one more weekend to get a buck. There will still be the antlerless only weekend later in December. Went out the week of Thanksgiving and all I saw was other hunters. It was rediculous out there. Several times I would get there early in the morning only to have the sun come up and have someone set up facining me at 100 yrds. Wide open country on small plots of land. These are the hunters I would like to see find a reason to get out of the passtime. Anyway I'll give it 1 more shot. Good Luck all

WIbuckchaser 12-01-2015 03:31 PM

I just got my doe posted on the board. Hopefully I can fill my buck tag some time between Friday and Sunday of this week or I will be eating that tag. Hopefully the muzzle loader hits its mark!

Talondale 12-03-2015 09:40 AM

Haven't seen much all season. Rifle season is out for my property. I have a late muzzle loader season or can go hunt further east with my rifle. Hope to at least get a doe for meat.

Talondale 12-04-2015 10:12 AM

Man, it's slow even on the check-in board. Just 3 bucks and two does. It's anyone's game at this point.

Game Stalker 12-04-2015 10:54 AM

Excuse me Team 3

kellyguinn 12-08-2015 04:28 AM

Got a dandy down. I'll post pics here in a bit. Its at the taxidermist but I'll be picking the rack up either today or tomorrow to score it. Main frame 8 with 6 or 7 kickers and around 21" inside spread. He was checking a scrape I poured some fresh doe urine (not the store bought stuff) in the day before.

Glad for the team but I still with I had my bow with me. 40 yrd shot with the 7 mag. Scope had been knocked off (shooting way low) I'm guessing. My friends 85 Y/O Grandfather in law came to help and after about 300 yrds thru thick briar he found it down a deep creek bank still alive. Ended up have to put it down with a 44. Shot the buck a 7 am and didn't recover till 4 pm. I'm still a little upset with it. Looks like the shot clipped the belly then shattered the opposite front leg. Like I said I'm sick and can't to get to a range to see if it was the scope or just a crappy round. The deer was quarting to me and I normally have no problem with that shot especially at that range. On the plus side. This was the first time I have met my friends Grandfather and I got to listen to many stories from back in the day which I will always cherish. And even though he has hunted many things (and was very good at it) he has never deer hunted. I'm pretty sure that getting out of the house to go tracking ( he walked a good mile to 1.5 miles) by the time we tracked it then going around all the thick stuff to get back to his truck and being the one to actually find the deer made his year. I will be going back out to visit as I'm sure there are many more stories I'd love to hear.

Talondale 12-08-2015 06:17 AM

Congrats Kellyguinn. Sounds like you had a great hunt despite the bad shot. Always good to tap into the information resource that the older generation can be. Hearing first hand stories of how things used to be is a great way to broaden perspectives and learn something new (that's really old).

Do you have a score on that badboy?

Congratulations.

kellyguinn 12-09-2015 03:41 AM

No score yet. I have to go pick the rack up from the taxidermist. He is going to let me hold on to it till he has the form and hide ready. I've just been too busy with finals testing and Dr. appts. If I can get my last test done today in time I'll swing by his house and pick it up and get a score. Any guesses?

Talondale 12-09-2015 05:53 AM

I'd guess around 128" green score. Assuming a 18" or 19" spread. That's as a main frame 8 pointer. All those stickers are liable to add on to the non-typical score a bit.

22-24" main beams
19" spread
6-7" G2, G3
3-4" diameters avg.
around 18" stickers

kellyguinn 12-09-2015 09:26 AM

I was gonna guess 135" but I Can barely get my hands half way around the bases and the inside spread looks to be just over 21" so I'm a little curious. My friend placed a 18" crossbow bolt inside the rack and there was a good 3" to spare. That trash will hurt the net score but will help us here thank goodness. Plus it just looks cool. lol

Talondale 12-09-2015 01:11 PM

Yeah, well then I'd guess upper 130's. Similar to this one I killed a couple years back. You've got shorter tines but mass adds up quick.
