yah ive done the exact same thing before but i had my hands full with a hamburger. I had burger in my hands, rod between my foot and boat and over time my foot had lightened up on the rod and a 4lb walleye just hammered it and the rod went air born, my burger went air born and i grabbed the rod just before the reel hit the water, so managed to save my rod, land a 4lb eye but lost my precious moose burger By the way we were on a small aluminum boat and the 3 rod holder were already being used thats why i had to wedge mine.
