remember to submit photos of you, your deer, and your bow to the official score card. If the photo does not have all three, the entry is disqualified.

Nice job on the doe Wallhangr. I hunted NC last week, saw a decent buck. I'll be in stand in IL next week, I need all that standing corn to disappear.

If the rain stays away the corn should all keep coming out. A lot of fields around here are already done.

b0huntr147 10-07-2014 06:04 AM

Saw on the news here in NE that 85% of beans and 90% of corn is still standing right now and with good chances of rain the next couple of days could be slow coming out. I have stand sits planned for next weekend but I may try to sneak out sooner. I have a lady back home that I always shoot a doe and take it to a processor for her so hopefully I'll be on the board soon.

After seeing your post, I talked to one of our grain traders - not good news. HUGE carry in the market right now so unless the farmers are going to their own storage the corn will probably be standing for a while. Here in MO we're close to 50% harvested, IL is only showing around 23%.

AF Hunter 10-07-2014 09:02 AM

Iowa crop report from yesterday.

Only 5 percent of corn has been harvested so far, 3 weeks behind the normal pace. Seventy-six percent of the corn crop was reported in good to excellent condition. With almost all of the soybean acreage turning color, 85 percent of the crop was dropping leaves or beyond, just behind average. Soybean harvest was 9 percent complete, the lowest percentage harvested by this date in over 30 years. Seventy-four percent of the soybean crop was in good to excellent condition.

well guys looks like I'm gonna have to hunt saturday, the weather here in nebraska is looking too perfect to not be out. Forecast is for saturday moring is 38 degrees at sunrise, no clouds, and a 3 mph NE wind which is the perfect wind for my stand

AF Hunter 10-08-2014 02:00 PM

I'll be going out for Friday (fall break) and Saturday for my first hunts of the season.

Just saw this on another teams thread but I thought I would pass it along, for those of you with smart phones and there is nobody else there to take a pic for after the kill with you, the deer, and the bow. Prop up your phone and start taking a video then go position your deer and bow. Then watch the video and pause it when everything looks good then you can screenshot that image.

I had never thought of doing this until I read that, should come in handy for me anyways and thought it may help other team members also.

I downloaded a timer for mine, the pic of the doe I posted was done that way. First take didn't work because I needed more time. Never thought of using the video mode!

Or a lot of cameras now have wi fi built in and you can use your smart phone as a remote shutter and view finder. I have a Samsung that does that and it is freaking awesome.

That's a pretty cool idea too, my digital camera is pretty old so it doesn't have that function. Half the time I can't even find the dumb thing, it does already have timer on it so I may need to find that and start keeping it in my hunting pack.

I have a dedicated camera to take when I go fishing and hunting with a timer, I have another I carry all the time in my vehicle just in case I come across a photo opportunity while driving, another for taking photographs at home, and finally one for school.

Fuji Finepix S5000 for hunting and fishing has a timer and is a good camera, but uses XD cards which are next to impossible to find anymore.

Nikon Coolpix L120 has timer and is in the truck all the time. A great point and shoot with a few extra bells and whistles.

Samsung NX300 has remote operation by cell phone and also timer. This is a point and shoot that has interchangeable lenses. Excellent camera.

Canon T5i with remote shutter and timer. This is as close as I get to a professional camera and I have way too much invested in the lenses, but you got to do what you got to do.

I also keep a small tripod in my vehicle all the time just in case I need it.

First sit of the season coming up in the morning. I have four bow tags I can fill this year so the first doe I get a chance on is in trouble, because I need some fresh meat in freezer. Wish me luck and hopefully I'll have is at least 25 more points on the board by this time tomorrow.

gamsmith 10-13-2014 07:10 AM

Well I gave it a go this morning. Woke up to 73 degree temperatures and a hot humid wind blowing in storms for later in the day. Only thing I got out of this trip is probably West Nile.

b0huntr147 10-13-2014 08:06 AM

Too bad, at least you made it out. I think I'm heading out this afternoon, however the wind is blowing 15-20 mph see we'll what I end up doing.

b0huntr147 10-14-2014 05:57 AM

Well made it out last night, it was super windy and nothing was moving. I got in there super early to hang a double set so my girlfriend can tag along this weekend. Also found out that my main camera had been dead for 10 of 14 days it was out there. Did also move another camera to a new location with lots of traffic so hopefully I'll start getting something a little bigger on camera.

razor6570 10-14-2014 02:50 PM

Slow up here in PA. Saw some bucks this week but the warm weather has movement to a minimum.

Good luck everyone!

b0huntr147 10-16-2014 06:39 AM

Slow sit last night, didn't see a thing but it was very nice out with little bugs bothering me which was good since I left the thermacell sitting on the couch at home. I'll be back out Saturday morning so hopefully I'll at least see a deer.

Goose 11 10-17-2014 06:30 PM

Doe down, do they count?

wallhangr 10-18-2014 05:40 AM

Nice job Goose - and they do count!

I'm back home visiting in deer heaven right now (Knox Co, IL) and can't hunt. One of these days I'm buying out of state tags to hunt back here. Good luck to all those out this weekend!

b0huntr147 10-20-2014 05:53 AM

Nice job Goose 11, that gives up 50 points so far. So far I am yet to see a deer while sitting in my stand, I always have them on camera but can't seem to be in the stand at the right time.

Bucktail_Bob 10-20-2014 09:26 AM

Goose, way to put one down. Things are heating up in Northern Il. I had a scenario with a 150 class Saturday night.
He was crossing an open field an hour before sunset, I was in the woods, but I could see a portion of the field, he was about 150yds away.
I gave him a grunt, he looked up but continued on walking, then I gave him a long snort wheeze, that pissed him off. He bolted right towards me and stopped 50yds to my left, body was very large, its neck was already swelled up. I thought he was going to come right in, but he circled behind me, which was down wind, and stayed in the thicket behind me till dark.
I was an awesome hunt, I sat in stand all day, I only saw 7 deer, but 5 were bucks. I had a 100 class 2 year old right under my stand. My buddy who was hunting the same farm passed on a 120” 2 year old and saw 4 bucks. It’s a great sign to see daylight movement. It’s only going to get better…..

That was a great hunt Bob!! Maybe you'll get him next sit!! Thanks guys!

AF Hunter 10-22-2014 03:17 AM

Sunday a 19 point 172" buck was dropped on my place. Unfortunately it wasn't me as I was sitting at home with my leg raised after surgery on my foot. I'll be out there this weekend though.

Bummer! Looking forward to getting back out too. I'll be heading to our place again this weekend.

AF Hunter 10-22-2014 04:01 PM

Not a bummer at all. I don't own them, I wasn't there, and I gave him permission to hunt since I couldn't. This is his buck over 140 and he knocked this one out of the park. Top that with he's a really good friend, so I am tickled!

b0huntr147 10-23-2014 05:36 AM

It's always great when a good buddy has a great success on your place, on my Idaho trips my friends who live out there are always giving me first shot opportunity even if its bigger than anything they have shot.

Has anybody made it out this week? I think I am going to hit the stand tomorrow morning, after that I won't be out for a while. I am heading up to help the girlfriends dad harvest over weekend. Hoping to sneak in a little duck hunting as well.

wallhangr 10-23-2014 07:45 AM

Meant that's a bummer that you've been laid up AF!

Haven't been out this week, but I'll be hunting 5 of the next 7 days with a couple more days available right before rifle season opens on the 15th if I don't have one on the ground by Halloween.

Bucktail_Bob 10-23-2014 08:17 AM

AF,
Let’s see a pic of that buck, that will get the blood a boiling.
I can’t make it out this weekend, but I will be out the following weekend.
Good luck to anyone hunting this weekend.

AF Hunter 10-24-2014 06:33 AM

The fog was so thick this morning that I could have had a buck in the stand with me and I would not have seen it.

Bucktail_Bob 10-24-2014 11:13 AM

AF,
What a beautiful old buck, he must be pumped.
I want one of those!!

WOW!

Still better than my weekend, 1 small doe at about 75 yds. Pulled the cameras on the 2 spots I hunted last trip where I saw 4-5 deer each morning. Only deer on either was this guy.

AF Hunter 10-27-2014 06:08 AM

I was out all day yesterday in the wind. Before sunrise, while driving to my property, I saw 3 does and three bucks. After sunrise, I saw birds squirrels, and coons on their way back to their bedding. The highlight was just before sunset I had a jake walk by me trying to gobble. It was very entertaining to watch as he tried and tried again.

My view this morning

wallhangr 10-29-2014 04:16 PM

Had a monster in front of me at last light last Wed, showed up just a little too late. He was coming right to me and stopped behind a tree not 10 yds away. I drew back and waited....and waited...and when he finally stepped out I couldn't make out anything thru my peep. He walked a little bit further and I stopped him again but still could not make out enough to take a shot. I can only hope to get another crack at him.
