Goose 11 checking in! Our season doesn't start till October 15th here in Bama. But we're ready! Looking forward to a great season guys!

Our season starts October1, but I won't be getting into a stand until around the 21st. Checked the cameras today and put two stands up outside bedding areas. Here's a new player showing up. Not too wide, but pretty darn tall.

b0huntr147 09-15-2014 05:05 AM

Looks like everybody is here now! If nobody has a problem with it I like the name Team Double Lung

AF Hunter 09-15-2014 05:40 AM

I was thinking about that. Although whatever team name is decided on is fine with me, last night I thought about we should call ourselves simply "The Team" with the slogan "We let our arrows do the talking"

b0huntr147 09-15-2014 06:23 AM

Haha I like that a lot, if nobody else has objections I'm all in for that one.

Thats a pretty decent buck AF, I sat last night and had an opportunity at a 110" 9 point I've had on camera all summer but decided to pass on him this early in the season. Got a few pics of a bigger one, plus I've been dreaming of my monster muly I'll hopefully shoot next week.

AF Hunter 09-15-2014 06:52 AM

That latest pic I figure is about a 130. He would be way down the hit list if he showed up at all on it. The wide 10 I posted earlier is around 160-170 and is at the top of the list showing up at my favorite stand almost daily.

AF Hunter 09-16-2014 01:00 PM

I am not a graphic designer, nor do I play one on TV, but here is what I came up with.

b0huntr147 09-17-2014 05:48 AM

I like it, been really hard to sleep this week with the big hunt coming Friday. The 15.5 hour drive won't be enjoyable but well worth it.

Everybody here mostly hunting whitetails?

wallhangr 09-17-2014 09:34 AM

Well, the first 2 days of the season were fun, but nothing in the freezer. Had a doe work to me first thing after the sun came up opening day but when she cleared into my window she was walking dead at me maybe 15 feet away. She stood there for a few minutes taking time to lick her back, browse, etc and then started wondering what I was. She jumped away and I whistled stopping her broadside at 15 yds, but was behind enough brush that I didn't take the shot. Saw a couple small bucks that still had velvet and a 6 pt (could have been an 8 but couldn't see brow tines) that was hard bone. Saw 6 deer altogether with only the 6 pt being more than 10 yds away from me.

Sounds like some good days on stand. I am jealous, my season don't start till October 4th.

Boy my season just got interesting. Had a guy buy about a third of the land I hunt. While I hunt it for free I can't really complain. However he is now acting like he owns the whole woods. There's an old county road that has been closed for years that cuts right through the woods. For years I've maintained the road and kept it from growing up. He owns all property on one side of the road, but is acting like he owns the road. Closed it off where I can't get in and has stands set all along the edge of the road. Needless to say I'm afraid there are going to be some run ins along the way this year. Also the 200ac I hunted had no pressure before other than me and one other guy who were very careful and only took mature bucks. Now there are about 10 people hunting his side and shooting everything in sight.

That's an unfortunate turn in events, hopefully things will still work out for you this year. I had a similar thing happen to me a couple years ago, my parents owned 10 ac but I was able to hunt the 80 ac behind the house too. Well a guy came in and bought a 10 ac piece of the 80 the landlocked me from getting to the remaining 70. This guy also planted a bunch of trees around his piece making a little fence of sort to block his 10 ac piece in.

Nice buck Goose!

It has been quiet on here. Is everyone hunting? My season has not started yet.

TX_Hoghunter 09-22-2014 10:28 AM

The season start on Saturday around here. I have a speaking engagement but will be hitting the lease on Sunday. Hopefully I will have something positive to post next week.

Been seeing lots of animals out here in Idaho, no successful bull stalks but we did put a sneak on a couple of bedded cows. Snuck to 60 yards and put a great shot on a calf that stood up. Just a calf but I'm still proud of my first elk ever and took it with a bow.

Doesn't help us in the contest but still thought I would share it with you guys. I still have a mule deer tag and 5 days to hunt.

TX_Hoghunter 09-23-2014 11:51 AM

Congrats.

Congrats on your 1st elk harvest!

Bucktail_Bob 09-23-2014 04:40 PM

Congrats on the Elk, That is going to be tender delicious.

Goose 11 09-28-2014 01:33 PM

I'm gonna slip over to Mississippi and try to stick one this week! I'll let y'all know how it goes!

AF Hunter 09-29-2014 07:07 AM

Went to check the cameras one last time before next weekend's hunt and found:
1. one camera full of photos of nothing but the tree it was on shaking;
2. another camera turned on the tree it was on so it was no longer watching the trail, just another tree;
3. a poacher started shooting about 50 yards from me and when I yelled that I was going to take his gun and insert it in his $##, I saw him take off the other direction;
4. As I made it to the road, I saw a gut shot buck hobble over the road from my place to the neighbors; and
5. I didn't find the poacher.

Going to the courthouse this week to get my CCW permit and will not be unarmed again, even on my own land.

It amazes me how ballsy some of these guys are. Last year I thought the wood line entrance to one of my stands seemed too well travelled. It was still dark and I was all set in my stand when I saw a light moving thru the timber in my direction. When it got within about 40 yds I flashed my mag lite at him and his light went out. He's lucky I didn't climb down and hide behind a tree to greet him with a fist in the mouth.

razor6570 09-29-2014 03:35 PM

Sounds like PA is not the place with people like that! We just had a big 6 pt shot last weekend at my dad's house. Must have shot it from the dirt road towards his neighbors house. They found the buck about 150yds from the house. Large caliber gun, it had a large hole in the ribs.

It's a shame! My dad lets only youth hunters with their father hunt his property in gun season. He said that it is a great way to introduce kids to hunting. So far we have had three 1st year hunter hunt there and each of them have gotten their 1st buck. Nothing huge but it lights the fever in those kids. We were more upset because it would have been a great deer for one of the kids.

It is a honey hole for those kids. If they can sit still long enough a buck always come through. I think that my parents are just as excited as the kids. They have their pics on the fridge with their deer. He says that it is great to give back to the sport in our own little way.

AF Hunter 10-01-2014 01:48 AM

Opening day of the Iowa bow season and it has been pouring down rain since last night. That's okay though, I can't hunt until Sunday which will give my knee time to heal. Took a spill last night and tore up my right knee pretty good.

b0huntr147 10-01-2014 07:04 AM

Good luck out there, its been raining like crazy past couple days here by Lincoln NE and its going to be too wet to get into my spot. Pulled cameras Monday before the rain came in there was lots of little bucks and doe as usual but the couple of bigger bucks have disappeared for now. I'm hoping harvest will get things moving, I am surrounded by a few hundred acres of standing corn.

wallhangr 10-01-2014 09:30 AM

Looking forward to getting out again this weekend too. Temps will be dropping off and they should be moving. Beans have all gone yellow/brown so all our oak flats should see traffic.
Hope you heal up fast AF!

TX_Hoghunter 10-03-2014 09:47 AM

Lots of good deer movement and very, very few acorns at the lease this year. All signs are pointing up. I am pretty sure that I will be able to come through at some point. Just waiting for the right one to walk through. It will probably be 2 or 3 weeks before I head back out.

Got a wacky rack buck:

And still geting daytime pics of this young 7 point:

Check out what my son calls "Doe Vader":

wallhangr 10-04-2014 08:55 AM

Man I blew it this morning. Had seen a couple does and fawns early, then sat down in my stand for a few minutes. I looked left and there he was already within 15 yds and in my window. Didn't see him coming with the angle I have sitting. If I had been standing he would have been down. Probably at least 130.

Goose 11 10-04-2014 07:01 PM

At least you got to see him! Maybe next time! I didn't see any shooters. These stayed at least 60 yds out.

wallhangr 10-05-2014 11:30 AM

Tagged a doe this morning, won't let me upload pic from phone though. Thunderhead did a number on her, looked like a crime scene where the arrow was stuck in the ground.

Got to love those thunderheads! I have been using them for about 15 years. They have never let me down, as long as I do my part!

b0huntr147 10-06-2014 03:53 AM

Congrats on the doe wallhanger at least we're on the board!

Here it is, As mentioned before NAP Thunderhead shot from Diamond Marquis at 22yds. She ran more than I would have thought but about 20 yards of it was skidding downhill until a tree stopped her.

AF Hunter 10-06-2014 11:09 AM

Congrats! Hopefully this weekend won't be windy and I can climb into one of the three tree stands.
