BA BAM!!!!! Mark here, Indiana boy with good land... Stick em!!!!!!!

markjenna 09-10-2013 03:13 PM

I would say on the ave. I have 3-5 year olds running around my place with the little ones... My land backs up to the county wild life refuge, so I have a nice variety of animals... I would say there are 125-140 shooters on my place every year with the one 170 that you get to see once twice a year. Lets hope this year pays off...

I hunt locally and the avg deer is actually only a 1.5 year old buck.. sometimes a 2.5 year old. Hunting pressure is crazy around here... and there are big chunks of land w/ very little agriculture. As bad as it sounds, any deer with the bow is good around here in MA or NY.
I do go out to Western NY every year and hunt with a guy who intensely manages a couple thousand acres. He wants nothing but 3.5 year olds shot that generally go P&Y or better. I have hunted there 6 years and shot 3 very nice bucks, a cull buck, and took a 2.5 year old by accident one year. It happened so fast.
CT has alot of deer, but I rarely see big ones..

sounds like you have a little piece of heaven there Mark! can't wait to see how you make out.]
They are taking captain roll calls now... anyone wanna step up?

wallhangr 09-12-2013 05:20 AM

Well, it's just about here. Leaving after work today to take my wife away for our Anniversary on Friday (see how I planned that years ago:) ). Then Sunday morning I'll be on stand for the Opener. Hoping my new IPhone works better at the farm than my Blackberry used to. If so, I'll be able to send any updates/pics.

Western MA Hunter 09-12-2013 09:15 AM

haha... on it! now let's go kill some deer!

wallhangr 09-15-2013 08:35 AM

Had a doe and 2fawns around for about 40 min this morning. Had a couple more pics on cams of decent bucks. Heading out later to try to head one off on the way to the neighbors corn field.

TX_Hoghunter 09-15-2013 10:35 AM

Good luck.

-john

peakrut 09-15-2013 01:40 PM

Good luck and wear that safety harness.

Western MA Hunter 09-16-2013 03:58 AM

CT opens today... i will be out there this afternoon.
Lots of tags... a few small bucks and does on cam... gonna fill the freezer tonight.

markjenna 09-16-2013 10:32 AM

Shot my urban Doe Sunday morning. Now time to move on to a MONSTER BUCK...
:-)

TX_Hoghunter 09-16-2013 12:55 PM

Congrats. Make sure you get her entered.

-john

Western MA Hunter 09-17-2013 03:42 AM

Mark.. let's get a pic and get her entered. you just need to put on scorecard thread w/ team info.

CT opened yesteday. Went out and sat all afternoon. Saw 3 small bucks out in fields... one 3 point making a scrape. All still in velvet.
Had a doe and fawn come in... could have shot her, but the fawn still had spots and I just couldn't do it... ugh.. i'm getting soft! hahaha.

Heading back out this afternoon. Gonna be cool again... back up into mid 70s after today.

TX_Hoghunter 09-17-2013 05:08 AM

LOL...I would have done the same thing myself.

sat same stand again last night... had same fawn come in again... but alone this time... fed for an hour under me. then bedded down about 10 yards from me... no sign of mamma.. guessing another hunter shot her yesterday earlier on...
saw a few on the way out in the fields...

TX_Hoghunter 09-18-2013 05:34 AM

Neither of these bucks will score great but I should have a shoot at one of them. Not sure if I am going to want to hold out for a better buck or just take one of them. Both are plenty mature.

peakrut 09-18-2013 08:21 PM

Can I wack the one on the right! :-)

Western MA Hunter 09-19-2013 02:46 AM

haha Peakrut... i'll gladly shoot whichever you don't! wow... both studs...

TX_Hoghunter 09-19-2013 05:08 AM

LOL....Now remember guys most of our deer are smaller bodied then what you are probably use to looking at. I would guess that one on the right will only score in the mid 20's. Here is one of my deer from last year. Looks pretty good but only scored 133 and some change.

wallhangr 09-19-2013 06:20 AM

That pic reminds me of my first time in this contest. I never wear my boots into the cabin, so when I ran in to get the camera I changed shoes and forgot to change back before the photo. So there I was all decked out in camo except for my white Reeboks. Got a few comments about "sneaking up" on him from posting that pic:)

TX_Hoghunter 09-19-2013 06:31 AM

I hear ya. I always walk back to the cabin and change clothes. Down here we get 2 bucks, 3 does, and exotics so my hunting is not over just because I shot a buck. I want to try and keep my clothes as "fresh" as possible.

krub6b 09-19-2013 08:27 PM

Getting out for the first time tomorrow, have to rest a stand that I saw a lot of deer from last year. Hopefully I get a shot a something mature from it tomorrow.

Western MA Hunter 09-20-2013 02:43 AM

Good luck Krub6b!!!

wallhangr 09-20-2013 05:58 AM

I always liked Andy's stuff, good to know he's still around.

Don't know how this showed up above Peakrut's post....

peakrut 09-20-2013 06:37 AM

Team I sure hope you don't mind me throwing a plug out for my friend Andy over at ultimatecamo.com. He goes back to when this place was actually hunting.net.
I asked him for a discount code for some of the teams I am on at a couple of forums.
10% off and use code PEAKRUT.

Thanks, T

for the whole team! lol

Western MA Hunter 09-20-2013 08:24 AM

was just checking it out... Ultimate Camo... would like to get the fleece jacket, but no XXL..

SouthernMDArcherer 09-21-2013 03:18 AM

If I see one more fawn without a momma I am going to puke. This year is strange, I have seen so many fawns without a doe in sight. Strange))))

Well yesterday was a bust, one ill timed coughing fit alerted a bachelor group with a nice 3.5 year old 8 point and a 4.5 year old 10 point to my location and they gave me the slip. They were both nice enough I would have gladly filled my tag on my first evening on the stand.

TX_Hoghunter 09-23-2013 04:40 AM

Well the season here starts on Saturday. I am sitting on go. Depending on movement I might hunt the entire week.

Western MA Hunter 09-23-2013 06:57 AM

Good luck TX... i hope to get out tomorrow afternoon and possibly Wed as well.

That's some tough luck, at least we're just getting started.

krub - have you ever hunted over in Davisdale CA? (Columbia area) I was up there a few years ago and found a pretty good spot but haven't checked out much of the area. I have another trip planned in a couple weeks.

No I haven't, I've always stuck to hunting our family farm.

krub6b 09-24-2013 08:59 AM

Hung a stand behind my in-laws house yesterday afternoon and sat til dark, didn't see anything but squirrels. Getting out tomorrow morning hopefully I'll catch one of the bucks that busted me Friday coming back through to his bed.

Western MA Hunter 09-25-2013 03:59 AM

took this doe last night in CT... actually missed her first... shot over her back. not sure what I did... chip shot... She came back around at 10 yards... she only went about 50 yards max.

wallhangr 09-25-2013 06:24 AM

Congrats! Can't wait to get back out again next week.

TX_Hoghunter 09-25-2013 06:32 AM

Congrats.
