Default RE: 400 yard trophy?

Hello! Everyone

I'm new here to Huntingnet but not to hunting,I'm going on my 37th year and hopefully will have a few more left in me.
I live in the Piney Woods of Texas and we have some really big deer here but I wouldn't take a 400 yard shot either, not with any gun I now ownbut I wouldn'thavea problem taking a 200-250yrd shot with my 25-06if it presented itself as I have done it a few timesbefore.
The longest shoot I've ever taken was a 230yrd shot in the valleynear Banderes on a SouthTexas hunting tripbut I live in the East Texas and a reallylong shot on our 82 acres is at the most 150 yards.

I was just curious about the Quote Below? (next Paragraph)
I don't even own a 243 cal. Riflebut since I severely hurt my neck and shoulder 6 yrs ago the Savage 16FXSS in 243cal. will be my next deer Rifle because of it'sminimul recoil and it being very very accurate at long range and enough power to take down any deer around here.

Triggerhappy Quoted:

I would use any of them except the .243...
.

Why? The 243 has a flatter trajectory and more enrgy then a 308win.
out to 500 yards as aA Navel & Military test have proven! The 243 was actually created by necking down a 7.62mm NATO case,a.30cal. or(308).

Chuck Hawks:
.243 bullets are also winners in terms of ballistic coefficient (BC). Without getting too technical, ballistic coefficient indicates a bullet's ability to overcome air drag. This is important for flat trajectory, and for minimizing wind drift. (The higher the BC, the slower a bullet sheds velocity, and consequently the less it drifts in the wind.) Ballistic coefficient is influenced by many factors, and changes with velocity, so all BC figures should be taken as approximate.

Civilian deer, sheep, goat, and antelope hunters know that the .243 Win. is a much better killer on animals in the 100-350 pound class than the .223 Rem. A 95 grain .243 boat tail spitzer bullet at a muzzle velocity of 3,100 fps. retains 1,455 ft. lbs. of energy at 200 yards, 1,225 ft. lbs. at 300 yards, 1,024 ft. lbs. at 400 yards, and 890 ft. lbs. at 500 yards (Winchester figures). The .243 is more lethal at 500 yards than the 5.56mm NATO (.223)or 7.62x39 (308) are at 200 yards!
